Drinking water power plant and another small power plant |
The Mühlauer Bach is a left tributary of the Inn in Innsbruck , from the north chain of the Karwendel .
Run
The Mühlauer Bach rises in the area of the Arzler Reis [s] e , the cirque below the Arzler Scharte between the Mandlspitze ( 2366 m above sea level ) and Rumer Spitze . It breaks through the northern low mountain range in a southerly direction through the Mühlauer Klamm and flows to Innsbruck-Mühlau . The last section of the stream is piped.
Up to the confluence with the Inn it reaches a length of approx. 3.5 km and lies - with the exception of the source on the Rumer Alm - entirely in the Innsbruck city area.
The two source channels of the Mühlauerbach are specifically named Wurmbach and Mühlauer Klammbach .
Hydrography and geology
The sources of the Mühlauerbach are some of the most productive in the Nordkette range. This cannot be explained by the comparatively small catchment area on the surface, which probably only contributes a tenth to the discharge. The explanation lies in the geological structure of the Nordkette, which reveals an extensive source horizon here .
use
The stream has been important for the water supply since the High Middle Ages and was tapped for Innsbruck, but also rum and Arzl with canals. Mühlau is called 1288 Arcelmülin , which shows its importance as power water. Remnants of the canals ( Bach to Mühlau) are still visible in the area today.
The upper course up to the Schillersiedlung has today water quality class I, there is also the main drinking water reservoir of the city of Innsbruck. This waterworks is called the Mühlau drinking water power plant , in which the drinking water is used to generate electricity via a pressure tunnel. The water is then fed into the city of Innsbruck's drinking water network. There is a second power plant on the Mühlauer Bach, the Mühlau natural power plant .
legend
The end of the Mühlauer Klamm , which the stream crosses above Mühlau, is called the Teufelskanzel , where, according to legend, a Tatzelwurm was fought whose blood was converted into water. Therefore the brook is still referred to as the Wurmbach.
