history

Mühlendorf was founded before 1799 as a settlement around a former “Breth and Schneidemühle”. This is where the place name comes from. The mill belonging to the Straupitz estate has been traceable since the 17th century, but no longer exists. In 1844 Mühlendorf had 82 inhabitants in 12 residential buildings and was parish in Straupitz.

Mühlendorf used to be a predominantly Sorbian-speaking village, but the number of Sorbian / Wendish residents in the place fell sharply towards the end of the 19th century. Arnošt Muka counted 69 inhabitants for his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia in 1884, of which 39 were Sorbs and 30 Germans. However, the Sorbian / Wendish traditions are still cultivated in all parts of the Byhleguhre-Byhlen community .

In the 19th century, Mühlendorf belonged administratively to the municipality or state rule of Straupitz , but later became an independent municipality. On October 1, 1938, Mühlendorf was incorporated into Byhleguhre (then Geroburg). After the Congress of Vienna, the village was initially part of Byhleguhres in the district of Lübben in the administrative district of Frankfurt in the Kingdom of Prussia . On July 25, 1952, Byhleguhre and its districts were assigned to the newly founded Lübben district in the Cottbus district . After the reunification in the GDR , Mühlendorf was initially in the Lübben district in Brandenburg . On October 1, 1992, the municipality of Byhleguhre joined the newly formed Straupitz Office , which was later renamed "Oberspreewald Office". After the Brandenburg district reform of December 6, 1993, Mühlendorf was assigned to the Dahme-Spreewald district . On October 26, 2003, the communities Byhleguhre and Byhlen were merged to Byhleguhre-Byhlen and Mühlendorf lost its status as a district. At the same time, the Oberspreewald office merged with the neighboring Lieberose office to form the Lieberose / Oberspreewald office .
