history

After working as a foreign correspondent, the Swiss Ursula Müller learned to play and make puppets in the Lübeck Marionette Theater. In 1983 she and her husband, the dramaturge Günther Weißenborn, founded the ensemble in the Packhaus cabaret theater in Bremen . The opening production was the Singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . In a short period of time three more opera productions were created. Three years later, Müller's Marionette Theater moved to Wuppertal, where it initially played regularly in the foyer of the opera house before, after a stopover in a private television studio, in 1992 the theater was set up in the rooms of a former inn on the Wuppertal Neuenteich. In 2008 the theater was extensively rebuilt and made barrier-free . The theater has a stage with particularly ambitious lighting equipment that includes over 100 theater spotlights.

repertoire

The repertoire is aimed at all age groups, not only in terms of the choice of pieces, but also in terms of their design. According to this, children's pieces should also be interesting for adults and adult pieces for children. The performances are basically developed from a uniform aesthetic approach, the stage design, costumes, lighting and figure design follow a holistic idea. In the productions, the music is of particular importance, so composition commissions for the drama music in fairy tale dramas are regularly awarded.
