Gelmer

Gelmer is a residential area ( district ) in the eastern part of the Westphalian city ​​of Münster . It is located on the northeastern outskirts of the city in the immediate vicinity of the Dortmund-Ems Canal . Gelmer includes the Gittrup farmers with the Gittruper See as well as the Sudmühle and Mariendorf residential areas . With these districts Gelmer has 3,845 inhabitants. Gelmer itself has 1776 inhabitants (2018).

Gelmer is predominantly agricultural. There is also an oil port on the Dortmund-Ems Canal with an attached tank farm owned by Westfalen AG and a smaller industrial area. To the north of Gelmer, the Münster-Gelmer canal overpass is an important industrial monument from the end of the 19th century.
