Mützens (formerly "Mietzens") is a group and a village in the municipality of Mühlbachl in Tyrol , which was mentioned as early as 1050 as "Mucines".
The place is located in the Wipptal west of Matrei am Brenner on the way to the pilgrimage site Maria Waldrast . The most important building in Mützens is the Church of St. Peter and Paul, which was first mentioned in a document in 1286 as the St. Peters Church. In 1750 it was redesigned in Baroque style - the interior was furnished with rococo stucco work, a baroque altar (around 1625), St. Peter and Paul and Stations of the Cross (1738) to the side. On the altar is a carved Pietà by Jakob Pacher (1625), donated by Johann Stolz from Mietzens as thanks for the happy return from the battle of the White Mountain in Prague.
During the construction of Brennerstrasse in 1852, 3,000-year-old Illyrian urn graves were uncovered in Mützen .
The hamlet of Mützens may once have been a settlement for Roman veterans.
