Made (proper spelling: MADE , English for Made ) is the third Korean and the fifth Japanese studio album of South Korean boy band Big Bang . The album was released worldwide on December 12, 2016 on the YG Entertainment label .

Emergence

Publication and the shifts

Big Bang's label YG Entertainment announced on March 31, 2015 that Big Bang's comeback project would start in April 2015. On May 1, 2015, the first Ep appeared M , on June 1, A , on July 1, D , and finally on August 5 e .

Made was originally supposed to be released on September 1st, but was postponed to the end of September due to the MADE World Tour and the desire of the band members to produce more songs for the album. In November 2016, Made was announced that it would be released worldwide on December 12, 2016.

The album cover has five white stripes on a gray and black background. In the lower half in the middle there is a white M. The five white stripes represent the band members.

presentation

About an hour before the album was released, Big Bang held a live stream on the Naver V app that was watched by over 1.5 million people. The group has also appeared on the radio shows Radio Star , Infinite Challenge and Weekly Idol . At the end of the year, they performed on SBS's annual Gayo Daejeon .

Singles

The Korean version of the album contains eleven and the Japanese 14 pieces of music. In addition to the four EPs, two more singles were released for the album.

Fxxk It

Fxxt It (kor. 에라 모르겠다 ) is a hip house song written by G-Dragon, TOP and Teddy. It was released in December 2016 at the same time as the full album.

Last dance

Last Dance ( English for Last Dance) is a ballad , which was written by G-Dragon, TOP and Taeyang and also appeared to coincide with the album.

Production and content

Stylistically, the album is classified into the genres of dance-pop , R&B , trap , K-pop and hip-hop . The album does not contain any musical guest appearances. Much of the album was written and produced by G-Dragon, TOP and Teddy Park.

The album begins with the song Fxxk It , a hip-hop song with tropical elements. It deals with the interest in a woman in a disco. This is followed by Last Dance , a melancholy song meant to illustrate Big Bang's love for her fans. Girlfriend describes the feeling of having a female partner.

The nine other pieces of music appeared in the individual EPs in 2015. Let's Not Fall In Love is one of two ballads on the album and a calm, emotional and gentle song that is supposed to describe an egocentric and defensive love or the insecurities of childhood love. With Loser 2015 Big Bangs first single was released in May since 2012. The song is a slow emotional hip-hop / R & B song in which Big Bang their insecurities, describe the feelings and the depression of a self-proclaimed loser. The sexual innuendos in Bae Bae are based on works by Irish artist Francis Bacon .

In Bang Bang Bang, Big Bang tries to win a woman's heart. The subject in Sober is a strong alcohol addiction . Sober was presented as a prelude to G-Dragons song Crooked during the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards . With Girlfriend, If You is the only song that was not shot for a music video. It is the first song in which all members of the group sing. It deals with the pain of a breakup.

Zutter is the first release of the hip-hop duo GD & T.OP since 2010. The album ends with the track We Like 2 Party , in which the band members sing or rap about their friendship. The Japanese version of the album includes the Korean songs and three songs recorded in Japanese for the album.

World tour

The Made World Tour began on April 25, 2015, around a week before Big Bang's comeback in Seoul , and initially only took place in Asia . In May, Big Bang announced six concerts for North America that would take place in October. This was followed by three concerts in Australia , two in Sydney and one in Melbourne . The tour ended in South Korea in March 2016. In total, Big Bang performed in 15 countries, played 66 shows and brought over 1.5 million people to the concert halls, making the MADE World Tour the most-visited tour by a South Korean band.

Documentary: Big Bang Made

In June 2016, Big Bang released their documentary Big Bang Made . The documentary accompanied Big Bang on their 340-day MADE World Tour and showed backstage scenes, appearances and interviews. The film drew over 30,000 people to theaters in Korea and over 120,000 people in Japan.

Commercial success and chart success

Made is Big Bang's most successful studio album. The album sold over 1.1 million copies in the People's Republic of China within 24 hours . By August 2017, the album was able to sell over 2.7 million copies on the three major Chinese music platforms QQ Music, Kugou, and Kuwo and is one of the best-selling albums in China. The album debuted at 172 on the US Billboard 200 , with over 4,000 sales in the week of its release. It also reached one of the Heatseeker and World Album charts. In South Korea, Made sold 100,000 copies by the end of the release year and was the sixth best-selling album in 2016. The Korean edition of the album climbed to 23rd on the Oricon charts, with over 2,500 sales. The album was released in Japan in February and sold over 75,000 times within 24 hours and over 100,000 times in a week. So far, Made has sold over 3.1 million copies worldwide.

Chart overview

Made entered two of the South Korean album charts on December 18, 2016 and was ranked number 1 in the first calendar week of 2017. The album reached top position in February 2017 in Japan. It was Big Bang's third album in the US album charts and their first in the UK album charts . It reached number 24 in the 2016 South Korean annual album charts and 20 in 2017.

Awards

The album Made was nominated for three awards. At the Gaon Chart Music Awards and the RTHK International Pop Poll Award they won the award for the best album. They lost to Exo at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards .
