Family, education and work

Ogórek completed a master's degree in history at the University of Opole in 2002, and a year later a postgraduate course in political science on European integration at the University of Warsaw . In 2005 she also completed a further postgraduate course at the European Institute for Public Administration in Maastricht . In 2009 she did her doctorate with a dissertation on the history of the Beguines and Waldensians in Silesia and Moravia up to the end of the fourteenth century (Polish Beginki i Waldensi na Śląsku i Morawach do końca czternastego wieku ). She then lectured at the University of Customs and Logistics in Warsaw and the Malopolska University in Krakow .

She is married to the former member of the Sejm, Piotr Mochnaczewski (also SLD ) and has a daughter with him who was born in 2005.

Political career

Between 2002 and 2003 Ogórek worked in the Office for European Integration of the Polish Presidential Chancellery and from 2004 to 2005 in the academic service of the then Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka . From 2004 to 2006 she also worked in the press office of the Polish Ministry of the Interior and from 2008 to 2010 as an advisor for the parliamentary group of the Federation of Democratic Left (Polish Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej , SLD for short) in the Polish parliament . She then served for three years as head of staff of the party chairman of the SLD, Grzegorz Napieralski , and in 2010 as a member of his committee for the presidential election . From 2012 to 2014 she was also an advisor to the National Bank of Poland .

In 2011, Ogórek ran for the SLD in the parliamentary elections , but missed entry into the Sejm . The party executive of the SLD confirmed her as his candidate for the 2015 presidential election in 2014, despite the protests of many party members . At the start of the campaign, polls saw their support from only around five percent of voters, attributed to their inexperience and youth. She tried to create a spirit of optimism for a “European generation” in which she locates the youth and a new entrepreneurial spirit. She also called for Russia - whose policies she did not approve - no longer to be viewed as the main enemy, but to return to cooperation; The Polish government of the liberal-conservative Civic Platform and the previous President Bronisław Komorowski were among the sharpest critics of Russian President Putin in the Ukraine war since 2014 .

In the presidential election on May 10, 2015, Ogórek reached 5th place with 2.38 percent of the vote.

In a commentary for Gazeta Wyborcza, the journalist Agnieszka Kublik described Ogórek's political turnaround from the Social Democrats to the national conservative Prawo i Sprawiedliwość . According to Ogórek, the Szydło cabinet is implementing many of the postulates from its presidential campaign. She also highlights the party leader Jarosław Kaczyński as an “outstanding strategist” who, in contrast to the opposition, had a vision of Poland.

Television appearances

Between 2002 and 2003 Ogórek also appeared as an amateur actress in several Polish television productions, such as feature films and series. In 2014 she hosted the Biznes i Świat series for the TVN24 news channel .

Since 2016 she has been accompanying the satirical program “W tyle wizji” and is also a co-presenter in the discussion program “Studio Polska”. Both formats are broadcast on the public television broadcaster TVP Info .
