Magnus Johansson (born September 4, 1973 in Linköping ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who spent a large part of his active career at Linköpings HC from Svenska Hockeyligan , where he holds the club records for most games and assists.
Career
Johansson started his career in 1990 in his hometown with Linköpings HC . At that time this club belonged to Division 1 Södra , one of the second-class leagues in Sweden. At the age of 18 he became captain of his team and spent a total of seven years with the LHC.
In the season 1996/97 the Linköpings HC was looked after by Tommy Boustedt as head coach. When he moved to the Elitserien for Västra Frölunda HC , he took Johansson there with him. Despite his relatively small stature, Johansson quickly established himself in the top division of Sweden and developed within the following years into one of the best-scoring defenders in the league. In 2003 he won with Frölunda the Swedish championship and then joined the first time in European countries: Johansson signed a one year contract with the SCL Tigers from the National League A .
A year later he returned to Sweden and was signed for four years by his home club, Linköpings HC, which had meanwhile been promoted to the Elitserien . In Linköping he was appointed captain again and led his team to the greatest successes in the club's history: a second place in the 2004/05 season , reaching the playoff semi-finals in 2006 and the final in 2007.
In June 2007 he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League , but was given up to the Florida Panthers halfway through the season . A year later he moved to the Continental Hockey League at Atlant Mytishchi and was one of the players with the highest points. In April 2009 Johansson returned to Linköpings HC and was again appointed team captain. In the following season 2009/10 he was able to build on earlier performances and scored eight goals and 41 assists in 52 games, so that after the season he was awarded the guldpuck as the best Swedish ice hockey player and the Salming Trophy as the best defender of the Elite Series has been. In the following season , the defensive player convinced with outstanding performances and received the Guldhjälmen as the most valuable player in the Swedish top division. He also scored his 394th scorer point in September 2011, making him the best-scoring defender in the history of the league.
Johansson ended his active professional career in April 2015 and has been assistant to Sport Director Fredrik Emvall at Linköping since the 2015/16 season .
