The continuous population decline since the middle of the 19th century is mainly due to the closure of small farms and the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs.
economy
The place has always been agriculturally oriented, whereby the self-sufficiency of the residents has long been the focus. The large forest area allowed the production of charcoal and the settlement of several blacksmiths. Since the 1960s, tourism has played an important role in the town's income in the form of holiday homes ( gîtes ) .
history
The history of the place is closely linked to that of the neighboring Boissy-Maugis . In the Middle Ages there was a priory of the Saint-Évroult Abbey .
Attractions
- The origin of largely from the 17th to. 19th century castle (château) is in the 13th century; some cellars and foundations of the original castle, which may have been identical to the priory, are still preserved. The main building (corps de logis) is flanked by two lateral round towers. Parts of the castle have been recognized as a monument historique since 1972 .
- The parish church (Église Saint-Nicolas) dates from the 15th century. A stained glass window (vitrail) from the 16th century with scenes from the life of St. Catherine of Alexandria was placed under a preservation order; the same applies to the altarpiece made in the 17th century .
