The Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape / Seascape nature park is 160 km northeast of Puerto Princesa , the capital of the Palawan Province in the Philippines . It was established on July 12, 2000 with the entry into force of Presidential Decree 342.

The Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape / Seascape is a combined landscape and marine protected area and covers an area of 2015.66 km², of which 1113.69 km² comprise marine ecosystems . The core zone of the nature park includes the Malampaya Sound, which is divided into two zones. One zone is inside the large elongated bay (English: Sound), the other zone forms the outer part of the bay . The border between the two is formed by 13 smaller islands . The coastline is a mixture of mangrove forests and large expansive tidal flats. Numerous smaller streams and rivers flow into the bay, which is why the water in the inner part of the bay is called brackish , with a very high nutrient content of zooplankton and phytoplankton . This high nutrient content is essential for the fish, crayfish and shrimp farms that have been set up in the last few decades. This is intended to serve sustainable fishing . To the north is the El Nido-Taytay Managed Resource Protected Area and to the east is Lake Manguao , inland on the island of Palawan.

A total of 156 species of fish have been found in Malampaya Sound, of which 60 species are used for commercial fishing . A smaller population of the rare Irrawaddy Dolphin and East Pacific Dolphin also live in the sound .

The nature park serves not only to protect marine flora and fauna , but also to protect and develop the livelihoods of the local population living by the sea. In total there are 22 barangays , 18 belonging to the municipality of Taytay and 4 belonging to the municipality of San Vicente , in the area of the nature park. The total population was 27,828 people in the nature park, with an increase of 6.6% percent and year. 70% of the population earns their income from fishing and agriculture . The establishment of the nature park also serves to develop tourism in the region.
