Maleník is a mountain in the Moravian Gate in the east of the Czech Republic . With 479  m nm it forms the highest elevation of the Maleník forest .

Geography and geology

The ridge of the Maleník Forest extends on the southern bank of the Bečva between the towns of Lipník nad Bečvou and Hranice na Moravě . In addition to the main Maleník peak, there are also the mountains Krasnice ( 464  m nm ), Pavelák ( 366  m nm ), Dubová ( 349  m nm ), Křivý ( 410  m nm ) and Polomná ( 404  m nm ). The mountainous area belongs as a geomorphological subunit to the foothills of the Beskydy Mountains ( Podbeskydská pahorkatina ).

Malenik consists of shales and conglomerates of carbon , overlaid by sediments of Tertiary and Quaternary . The entire ridge is forested. The average temperature is 7–8 ° C, the annual rainfall 500 mm.

natural reserve

On the slopes of Maleník, two mixed beech forests have been under nature protection since 1962 , and their composition is similar to the original condition of the forests in the Moravian Gate. The nature reserve Dvorčák located on the southeast slope at an altitude from 362 to 392 m nm It comprises on 11.71 hectares a deciduous forest with rich herb layer, in inter alia the spring pea , lily of the valley , spurge , Sanikel , Polygonatum and White butterbur find . About 30 species of birds breed here. The 34.61 hectare nature reserve Bukoveček is located on the north slope at an altitude from 298 to 432 m nm It protects the rest of a deciduous forest, in the poor herb layer Luzulo , sedges and bluegrasses dominate. Ornithological studies have shown nesting sites for 49 bird species. Both reserves have been designated as trial areas by the Forestry Faculty at the University of Brno , but no trials are currently being carried out.

Infrastructure and sights

There are two well-known sights on the edges of the Maleník: in the west the Helfštýn castle , in the east the cave system of the Zbraschau aragonite caves . An asphalt road runs through the Maleník Forest between Lhota and Paršovice . The entire forest is criss-crossed by a network of forest trails and paths that are popular for hiking and mountain biking.
