Manchester is a city in Meriwether and Talbot counties in the US state of Georgia with 4230 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Manchester is about 20 km south of Greenville . The nearest major cities are Columbus (50 km southwest) and Atlanta (100 km north).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 4230 inhabitants were distributed among 1701 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.49 people per household. There are a total of 1989 households.

64.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.15 persons. Children under the age of 18 lived in 34.5% of all households and persons aged 65 or over in 31.6% of all households.

30.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 44.2% of the population were male and 55.8% were female.

47.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 48.4% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 1.9% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.8% to several ethnic groups. 1.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

The average annual income per household was 29,449 USD , while 32.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
