The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is a hotel - casino complex on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas in the US state of Nevada .

With over 4766 rooms and suites, it is one of the world's largest hotels . The gold-colored facade glazing is characteristic.

history

The eastern tower ( Mandalay Bay ) was opened in 1999, has a "Burma theme" and 40 floors, with floors 35 to 39 (424 rooms) being operated separately as the Four Seasons hotel . The top floor houses the House of Blues Foundation Room , a club with an attached restaurant.

Mandalay Bay

The western tower, called Delano Las Vegas since 2013 , opened in 2004 under the name THEhotel at Mandalay Bay , is 43 floors high and comprises 1,117 suites. It is managed separately. The “Mix” restaurant is located on the top floor. For PR reasons and because the number “4” is considered an unlucky number for Asian players, the floors from the 40th floor onwards have the numbers 61, 62 and 63. The VIP suites are located here.

Mandalay Bay-Excalibur Tram

Each tower has its own spa . A system consisting of several pools and an artificial beach with a wave system is shared. For Mandalay Bay is one of the largest conference centers in the world, the Events Center (hall with 12,000 seats), a theater, a House of Blues (Restaurant and concerts), a variety of restaurants, the huge aquariums Plant Shark Reef and the store -Passage Mandalay Place , which connects it to the neighboring Luxor Hotel (same operator).

The free Cable Liner Shuttle ( Mandalay Bay-Excalibur Tram ) commutes between Mandalay Bay , the Luxor and the Excalibur Hotel .

The hotel was part of the Circus-Circus group , which was later renamed the Mandalay Resort Group after its flagship . In 2005 this group was bought by competitor MGM Resorts International .

Mandalay Bay served as the backdrop for the fictional Montecito in the television series Las Vegas . A major part of the plot in the song Me and My Monkey by Robbie Williams takes place in Mandalay Bay .

From 2006 to 2009 the Las Vegas Desert Classic took place in Mandalay Bay , the darts tournament with the highest value to date outside of Great Britain (250,000 US dollars).

Mass murder on October 1, 2017

On October 1, 2017, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock attacked visitors to a music festival taking place on a site opposite the hotel from a suite in Mandalay Bay, killing 58 people and injuring 869 others.
