Manfred Obrecht (born August 23, 1958 in Wiedlisbach , Canton Bern , Switzerland ) is a Swiss conductor , trumpeter and concert organizer.

Life

Obrecht, son of a family of musicians, grew up in Wiedlisbach. He studied with Carlo Poggi, Francis Schmidhäusler and René Schmidhäusler at the Conservatory for Music in Bern and graduated in 1981 with a teaching diploma for trumpet and a concert diploma. He received his diploma as an orchestral trumpeter in 1983 at the Music Academy of the City of Basel with Mario Populin.

In 1976 Manfred Obrecht won the Swiss Junior Championships (SSQW) and was then named the first Principal Cornetist of the Swiss Youth Brass Band (NJBB). After completing his studies he worked as a trumpeter with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Basel , Chamber Orchestra Bern operates Chamber Orchestra Ludus Bern Chamber Orchestra Serenata Solothurn, Orchestra of the town of Solothurn and the International Brass Quintet.

In 1981 Manfred Obrecht founded the Oberaargauer Brass Band (OBB) and was its conductor until 2009. In 1982 the band won the Swiss Brass Band Competition in the first class. As a result, the band won numerous 1st prizes, including the Flicoro D'oro Internazionale in Riva del Garda in 1995 and 1997 . In the 2000s, the OBB, under Obrecht's management, won the Swiss Entertainment Contest 5 times and the Birmenstorf Grand Prix several times . In 1999 and 2006 the band won the annual ranking and was named Swiss Band of the Year. At the record label Obrasso-Verlag 13 records were released under his direction. Engagements in the motherland of the brass band, in Great Britain, followed. As a guest conductor, Obrecht has worked with the Yorkshire Building Society Band, the Brighouse & Rastrick Band , the British Leyland Band, the Desford Colliery Band, the Flowers Band and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Together with his brother Werner Obrecht, he founded the music publisher Obrasso-Verlag AG in 1983 and the concert agency Obrasso Classic Events GmbH in 2003 .

From the beginning, Obrecht was a guest conductor at many of his own events, which his concert agency produced at the KKL Luzern , the Tonhalle Zürich and the Casino Bern . Obrecht has conducted the London Concert Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the Slovak Philharmonic Bratislava , the Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra, the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana.

Manfred Obrecht has been chief conductor of the Classic Festival Brass wind ensemble since 2015. With concert choirs from home and abroad, such as the Moscow Cathedral Choir , the Coro dell'Opera di Parma, the Arcis Vocalists Munich, the Aurelius Sängerknaben Calw , the Birnauer Kantorei Konstanz, the choir of the Biel Solothurn Theater , the Classic Festival Choir, the Zurich Concert Choir or the Coro La Compagnia Rossini, he regularly performs well-known choral works such as Messa da Requiem (Giuseppe Verdi), Grande Messe des Morts (Hector Berlioz), Messe solennelle en l'honneur de Sainte-Cécile (Charles Gounod), Requiem and Missa Brevis (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) or The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace (Karl Jenkins).

In 2010 Manfred Obrecht made his debut at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden with the Philharmonie Baden-Baden and the KammerChor Saarbrücken. He was able to win over personalities from the theater and film business, such as Barbara Wussow , Christine Neubauer , Heidi Maria Glössner , Sky du Mont , Patrik Fichte , Christian Kohlund , Siegfried Rauch and Günther Maria for the Christmas concert under his musical direction Halmer .
