Mara Jelica (* as Mara Djeno on January 1, 1974 in Jajce , Yugoslavia , today Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a Croatian chess player . In 1996 she received the title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

Private career

From 1988 to 1992 she attended a business high school. In 2000 she changed her maiden name Djeno to Jelica. Mara Jelica worked as a clerk until 2013 .

She became the C-trainer of the German Chess Federation in 2014 and often works with children and young people. She teaches chess at twelve schools in Dortmund and three schools in Essen.

Chess career

In 1991 in Mamaia Mara Jelica first took part in a junior world championship. She played her first Yugoslav women's championship in 1991 in Kladovo . In other Junior World Championships she took part in 1992 in Buenos Aires and 1993 in Kozhikode . In 1993 in Zagreb and 1998 in Dresden she took part in zone tournaments for the World Cup for women.

She participated several times in tournaments at the Dortmund Chess Days. In 2012 she was the first woman to win the Dortmund city championship, ahead of Eckhard Schmittdiel , among others .

National team and clubs

Mara Jelica took part in ten women's chess Olympiads : 1992 in Manila and 1994 in Moscow for Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as 1996 in Yerevan , 1998 in Elista , 2000 in Istanbul , 2002 in Bled , 2004 in Calvià , 2008 in Dresden, 2012 in Istanbul and 2014 in Tromsø for Croatia. She represented Bosnia-Herzegovina at the European Women's Team Championships in 1992, Croatia in 1997 (in the second team), 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2013.

In 1999 she played in Nova Gorica for ŠK Belišće-Metalis (Croatia) at the 4th European Women's Chess Club Cup .

In the German women's league, Jelica played for the Krefeld chess club Turm 1851 from 1993 to 1997 , from 2004 to 2006 for SK Großlehna , from 2008 to 2013 for the Karlsruhe chess friends and since the 2015/16 season for the SF Deizisau . In general game operations, Mara Jelica is registered for BCA Augsburg in the 2016/17 season .
