Marc Michaelis (born July 31, 1995 in Mannheim ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL) since March 2020 and for their farm team , the Utica Comets , in the American Hockey League (AHL) plays in the position of the left winger . Michaelis has been a German national player since April 2018 .

Career

Michaelis played as a teenager for the young eagles Mannheim , with whom he was three times champion of the student league and three times champion of the German junior league (DNL). In the 2013/14 game year he was named Player of the Year by the DNL. He was the team captain of the young eagles.

He then moved to North America, was on the ice for the Minnesota Magicians in the North American Hockey League and from December 2014 for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League . In the 2016/17 school year, Michaelis joined the college team at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and also began studying sports management. In the 2016/17 season he was named newcomer of the year of the Collegeliga Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his senior year at Minnesota State University, he was named to the WCHA First All-Star Team for the fourth year in a row, and was named Player of the Year and Striker of the Year. In March 2020, the Vancouver Canucks from the National Hockey League announced that the German international had signed a one-year contract.

International

For his home country Michaelis played in the junior division at the U18 Junior World Championship 2013 and the U20 Junior World Championship 2015 . At the beginning of April 2018, the striker made his debut in the German national team in an international match as part of the Euro Hockey Challenge 2018 against Russia . He then took part in the 2018 World Cup in Denmark as the only non-professional in the German squad . This was repeated the following year at the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia .
