Marco Ludwig (born November 11, 1982 in Bad Muskau ) is a former German ice hockey player . The two-way player, who played as a defender as well as a striker, comes from the Weißwasseraner ice hockey youth and was there as "the best of his year".

career

Marco Ludwig learned to skate from his father Andreas Ludwig at the age of four . After going through the youth and junior teams from the 2000/01 season he was active for the ice sport Weißwasser in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey . In addition to the season with the "young foxes" he came to five appearances with the professionals. After the 2001/02 season he moved to the EC Peiting playing in the ice hockey league , with whom he missed promotion to the play-offs of the 2002/03 season. Returning to his home club, now renamed Lausitzer Füchse and also playing in the Oberliga, he achieved immediate promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with them in the 2003/04 season , to which he contributed with 13 goals and 20 assists.

Nevertheless, he initially moved - also thanks to a cooperation and the interest of the DEL finalist Frankfurt Lions - within the upper league to ERV Schweinfurt , which he left for SC Riessersee during the season . There he played another two seasons; the team failed after first place in the main round in the play-offs. However, Ludwig was able to attract the attention of the EHC Munich due to his performance of 62 scorer points in 113 games , which hired him for the 2nd Bundesliga 2007/08 . With just one goal and four assists, he was unable to build on his performance and subsequently moved to the Red Devils in Bad Nauheim . In the 2008/09 league season , Ludwig, who was the team captain at the time, injured his shoulder and ankle. In addition to ice hockey, he began training as an insurance agent, played one more season each at ESC Bad Liebenzell and EC Stuttgart in the Regionalliga Süd-West and ended his active sporting career in 2009.

In January 2014 he took over as coach of the Jonsdorfer Falken team , which play in the top ice hockey league , initially until the end of the season.

Private

His role model is his father Andreas Ludwig , who was also an ice hockey player and took part in several world championships for the national ice hockey team of the GDR .
During his time at SC Riessersee , he met the ski racer Maria Riesch in 2006 and lived with her in Garmisch . The couple separated in 2008.
Since January 2012, he and his colleagues have been running an agency for insurance and financial services for AXA in Weißwasser . Marco Ludwig is married and has one daughter.
