Marco Matthes (* 1977 in Berlin ) is a German actor .

Life

Marco Matthes, born in West Berlin , grew up in Berlin, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein . He made his first acting experience in the amateur field at the Hamburg cellar theater. As part of his community service, he founded a theater group in Lauenburg / Elbe , where he himself staged plays and taught the actors.

He completed his acting training from 2000 to 2004 at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art (HfS “Ernst Busch”) in Berlin . He passed his diploma with distinction. He also attended acting workshops with Peter Zadek , Regine Lutz and Gisela May . Since 2012 he has been regularly attending acting coaching with Sigrid Andersson (“Die Gasstelle”, Berlin). He also successfully completed a dubbing acting course at Berliner Synchron .

After completing his studies, he received his first theater engagement at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf (2003–2006). This was followed by guest engagements at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (2006, as Professor in Emil und die Detektiven ; director: Annette Raffalt ), Staatsschauspiel Dresden (2007, as Hephaistos in Prometheus ; director: Holk Freytag ) and at the Lübeck Theater (2007, as Carluccio in Goldoni -Comedy Der Impresario von Smyrna ; Director: Walter Meierjohann ).

In the 2009/10 season he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Rostock Volkstheater , with roles such as Alain in Der Gott des Gemetzels (2009-2010), Albert in The Sorrows of Young Werther (2009-2010), Flaut / Thisbe in A Midsummer Night's Dream (2010 ) and Dr. Spivey in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (2010; Director: Martin Nimz ). At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Matthes moved to the Senftenberg Theater , where he stayed until 2014. Here he played u. a. Jedermann / Mammon in Jedermann (2010; director: Sewan Latchinian ), the major von Tellheim in Minna von Barnhelm (2010; director: Esther Undisz ), the chief Wehrhahn in Der Biberpelz (2012-2013; director: Sewan Latchinian) and the professor Higgins in the musical My Fair Lady (2012-2013; Director: Johannes Zametzer ).

He then worked freelance until 2016. From 2014 to 2016 he appeared again as a guest at the Volkstheater Rostock, with the role of Valère in Der Geizige (director: Sewan Latchinian). In 2014 he was a guest at the Störtebeker Festival on Rügen . In 2015/2016 he performed at the “Compagnie de Comédie” in Rostock . Since the 2016/17 season he has been permanently engaged at the Deutsches Theater in Göttingen . Here he played so far a. a. Duke Alba in Don Karlos (2016-2017, director: Maik Priebe ) and the general Holofernes in Judith (2017; director: Matthias Kaschig ).

Marco Matthes also worked in some film and television productions, where he a. a. played alongside fellow actors such as Johannes Allmayer , Christina Athenstädt , Katrin Sass and Hermann Beyer . In October 2017 he was seen in the ZDF television series Heldt in an episode supporting role as the registry office employee Matthias Raschke. In April 2018, an episode role followed in the ARD crime series Morden im Norden , as the brother of a pastor who was sexually abused as a child by her predecessor.

Matthes is also active as a drama teacher and has repeatedly taught private drama students. At the HfS “Ernst Busch” he gave lessons in the departments of acting and directing (2006–2008). During his engagement at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (2007/2008) he led workshops in the field of acting and gave basic lessons there. Since 2010 he has been teaching acting as a lecturer at the Rostock University of Music and Theater .

Marco Matthes has a son (as of October 2017). He lives and works in Göttingen and Rostock, where his family also lives.
