Marcus Kuhl (born March 15, 1956 in Mannheim ) is a former ice hockey player who played for the Mannheim ERC and Cologne EC from 1973 to 1993 and played 156 international matches for the German national ice hockey team . Later he was manager of the DEL Club Adler Mannheim for many years .

Career

The highly talented Kuhl played his first games at the age of 17 in the first team of the Mannheim ERC , which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time. At 18, he moved for the 1974-75 season for Cologne EC in the Bundesliga and was with 25 goals together with Anton Pohl best immediately scorer in the team. In the 1976/77 season he became German champion for the first time with the Haien, who currently had other stars in the ranks with Erich Kühnhackl and Craig Sarner . In the following years he was an integral part of the German national team for which he took part in his first world championship in Prague in 1978 . After the German championship in 1979 and the world championship in Moscow in 1979 , in which he scored six goals, he returned to the Mannheim ERC and was able to lead the team to the championship in its first season in 1979/80 . Participation in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid during the season was another career highlight.

For three seasons he stayed in Mannheim and during this time also took part in the World Championships in Gothenburg in 1981 and in Helsinki in 1982 , where he was the most successful player in the German team with four goals. Then he returned to the Cologne EC. The team led by Gerd Truntschka reached in the 1982/83 semi-final and Kuhl played after the season at home 1983 World Championship . The 1983/84 season was interrupted by the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , in which he contributed a goal against Yugoslavia . Back in the Bundesliga, he won his fourth championship with the Haien after a hard-fought final victory. he stayed one more season in Cologne and moved back to Mannheim after the 1985 World Cup in Prague . In 1987 he played his last World Cup in Vienna and ended his career in the national team after the Izvestia Cup in 1987. He played for the Mannheim ERC in the 1992/93 season .

Together with Lance Nethery , he is considered the father of the 1997 , 1998 and 1999 championships as a manager . His services to the German ice hockey sport were honored with the admission into the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany . In addition, the Adler Mannheim blocked his shirt number, the 15, that is, this number is no longer given to current or future players of the club in Kuhl's honor.
