For much of the 2008 season he was in the Allsvenskan on the left wing in the starting line-up and contributed to reaching eighth place in the table in a total of 21 games this season. Under coach Lars Jacobsson he made his final breakthrough in the 2010 season and played all 30 games of the season. Before the beginning of the following season, the Spaniard Josep Clotet Ruiz took over the coaching position under which he maintained his regular place. At the side of Michael Görlitz , Anel Raskaj and Tomas Žvirgždauskas , the season was unsuccessful, so that the team despite a coach change - Jens Gustafsson took over in July - relegated bottom of the table in the second-rate Superettan . Nevertheless, national coach Erik Hamrén nominated him after the end of the season for a January tour as one of nine newcomers next to his teammate Karl-Johan Johnsson for the senior national team .

In January 2016, Olsson moved to Derby County .
