Maria Ney

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maria Ney (born August 6, 1890 in Kiel , † April 7, 1959 in West Berlin ) was a German cabaret artist .

Life

Maria Ney was the daughter of a doctor from Kiel. She studied singing at the conservatory in Kiel. Forced to earn money by inflation, after unsuccessful attempts as a singer and actress at cabaret stages and theaters, she finally appeared as a folk singer who accompanied herself on the accordion. She made her debut in Berlin around 1923 in what was then " Café Großeswahn " on Kurfürstendamm. Kurt Robitschek engaged her with her songs from the Waterkant at the Berlin Cabaret of Comedians . In the “KaDeKo” she came on stage in a sailor suit. Then she performed with her purrs and sea shanties, for which she also took over the conference herself, in the Berlin large variety shows "Wintergarten" and "Scala".

Thanks to her quick-wittedness and her warm, humane sense of humor, Maria Ney was soon also “a welcome guest” on the radio, who appeared “on all German broadcasters”.

In the second program, which Wilhelm Bendow set up in his number cabaret “Tütü” installed in the basement of the Theater des Westens , she was seen in the mid-1920s alongside the principal himself and the actress Annemarie Hase .

In Trude Hesterberg's satirical-literary cabaret “Die Musenschaukel” in the Mascotte pavilion in Behrenstraße, which was founded in November 1933, she presented the cabaret revue “Windkraft 10” by Hans Fritz Beckmann , Frank Günther and Günter Neumann , which already refers to the "Stormy times" pointed out, the critical cabaret artists should now face. After the program was objected to in the NS organ Völkischer Beobachter , the “Musenschaukel” was closed by the Reich Propaganda Ministry after less than two months of operation.

As a girl with the boatman's piano , she had already participated in the sound film attempt The speaking film in 1926 ; in this role she was seen in various short sound films at the beginning of the 1930s. In 1936 and 1937 she took part in a short and a full-length feature film.

What she “cloned” together in the form of conferences, purrs and anecdotes, she collected in a little book called Ischa, right? , the first edition of which came out in 1941 and which is still occasionally offered in second-hand bookshops today.

In 1938 she ended her stage career to settle on a farm in eastern Germany. From there she was expelled in 1945 and returned to Berlin. At RIAS Berlin she found a new job as an announcer and conferencière. She moderated programs such as “Say your wish into the microphone”, “Who can, who wants?” And the “Colorful RIAS coffee table”, the latter with Kurt Pratsch-Kaufmann and Wilfried Krüger's band.

Maria Ney died on April 7, 1959 in the Hildegard Hospital in Berlin of a nervous problem. She is buried in the forest cemetery in Berlin-Zehlendorf.

Columbia and Odeon recordings, both Lindström labels, still bear witness to their artistry today.
