The Maria Sibylla Merian is a passenger ship built in 2011 that uses the Frankfurt Primus Line for round trips, day trips and event trips on the Main , Rhine and Neckar .
history
As a replacement for its first and oldest ship, the Primus from 1974, the shipping company was looking for a shipyard for a long time to build a new one. Since the shipyards in Germany were busy, the choice fell on the Dutch shipyard De Gerlien van Tiem from Druten . For the shipping company it was the first new building since the Nautilus from 1991. The ship was built at two different shipyards: the front two thirds of the hull was built by the Helldörfer shipyard from Arnhem , the rear third by De Gerlien van Tiem . At De Gerlien van Tiem in Druten, the fuselage sections were assembled and further expansion carried out. The wheelhouse is adjustable in height and can be lowered from 6.50 meters to 5.90 meters. This means that the ship can also sail the Neckar and, when the water level is high, the Main above Hanau. The last interior work on the ship was done in Mainz before it was completed in February 2012. The christening took place in Frankfurt on April 20, 2012, when the ship was named after the naturalist and artist Maria Sibylla Merian .
The Primus-Linie uses the ship as required on all offers mentioned in the timetable. It is used for small and large tours in Frankfurt as well as day trips up the Main, for example to Seligenstadt or Aschaffenburg , up the Neckar to Heidelberg or via Mainz to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley . The Maria Sibylla Merian can also be rented for charter trips and is used for event trips such as the “Krimi-Schiff”, trips to the “ Frankfurt city bells ”, architecture trips to the route of industrial culture Rhein-Main Frankfurt am Main , Christmas trips or after-work offers.
