Mariano Delgado (born February 20, 1955 in Berrueces , Valladolid province ) is a Spanish Roman Catholic theologian and church historian .

Life

Mariano Delgado is the third child of the village butcher Dionisio Delgado Sánchez and his wife Fernanda Casado de Prado. From 1960 to 1965 he attended the village school in Berrueces, Valladolid province, Spain. In Valladolid he attended from 1965 to 1972 the school in the episcopal high school, then studied until 1974 philosophy at the Philosophical School of the Dominicans . After a year off, he studied theology at the Faculty of Theology in Valencia from 1975 to 1976 and from 1977 to 1978 studied philosophy and theology at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Innsbruck . On April 7, 1979, he gained there to submission of work The hermeneutical approach of Edward Schillebeeckx . Attempt at a critical presentation of the degree as Magister in Catholic Theology . From April to July 1979 he studied with Paul Ricœur in Paris .

In October 1980, Delgado submitted the work The Hermeneutic Approach by Paul Ricoeur. Attempted a critical presentation at the theological faculty of the University of Innsbruck, with which he obtained his master's degree in philosophy. On July 1, 1985, he started at the same university with the theological history work Eschatologische Glaubenshermeneutik - Die Theologiemodelle von W. Pannenberg , J. Moltmann , E. Schillebeeckx and JB Metz as a response to the identity and relevance crisis of Christianity in the modern age in theology PhD . From January 1988 to the end of August 1997, he was initially Researcher and Assistant Professor in the civil service on a time (C1) at the Department of Catholic Theology of the Free University of Berlin , Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences II. The academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy he gained after Submission of the representation The Metamorphoses of Messianism in the Iberian Cultures. A study of the history of religion on November 2, 1994 at the Free University of Berlin. In February 1995 he completed his habilitation at the theological faculty of the University of Innsbruck with the text Farewell to the Conquering God. Studies on the past and present of Christianity in Latin America .

From September 1997 he was an associate professor for Middle and Modern Church History at the Theological Faculty of the University of Freiburg (Switzerland) . In October 2005 he followed a call there as a full professor for Middle and Modern Church History. Since May 2008 he has been director of the newly founded Institute for the Study of Religions and Interreligious Dialogue at the University of Freiburg. From 2010 to 2012 he was dean of the theological faculty there.

Delgado's main research interests are church history as a missionary history and Christian religious and cultural history , studies on Bartolomé de Las Casas and John of the Cross , political theologies in the 16th century and the history of German-language theology in the 20th century.

Delgado is married to the doctor Roswitha Delgado and has three daughters.
