Life

Marie Pischon, née Hupfeld, daughter of the lawyer Gustav Adolf Hupfeld , spent her childhood in Hünfeld until her father was ordered to Kassel in 1865 .

Marie Pischon received lessons in drawing and painting from her great uncle Eduard Ihlée in Kassel and from David Simonson in Dresden , who headed the "Academy for Drawing, Painting and Modeling" there. She first copied old masters before tackling human representations herself. On November 3, 1877 in Kassel married to from Stendal originating merchant and manufacturer Karl Hugo Pishon, a son of the pastor Carl Friedrich Heinrich Rudolph Pishon and his wife Julie Caroline born Voley. In the same year she moved to London . In 1879 and 1880 she gave birth to two children (Walter Gustav Heino and Elsa Maria). In 1880 she moved to Düsseldorf , where a son (Herbert Richard Waldemar) saw the light of day in 1883. The family then went to Berlin . Their sons Richard Albert Hugo Carl and Werner Julius Ferdinand were born there in 1887 and 1889. Her husband achieved a high professional reputation in Berlin. Nevertheless, he dared to reorientate himself to button production, but died before it could become a solid company. Marie Pischon took over the trading business - but not for long, which indicates bankruptcy. From then on, the talent of the widow with five children had to serve as a means of earning a living, which succeeded in view of the flourishing portrait painting at the time. In 1898 she was accepted into the Association of Artists and Art Friends in Berlin. Her membership ended in 1916. She was represented in 1901 with a "Female Portrait in Pastel" at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition . In 1907 Marie Pischon had her studio on Kurfürstendamm 213 and lived on Hohenzollerndamm in Wilmersdorf , then in 1910 the studio and apartment were merged at Freisinger Straße 2, Schöneberg , and from 1913 to 1915 at Lessingstraße 7 in Tempelhof . It was recorded in the Berlin address book at Margaretenstrasse 2 in Grunewald until 1919 . She then moved to Hamburg, where her son Walter lived. She moved into an apartment at 25 Hagedornstrasse and died on January 9, 1928 in the St. Georg Hospital. In addition to genre paintings , she mainly created portraits .
