Marieke Heimburger

Marieke Heimburger (born March 25, 1972 in Tokyo ) is a German literary translator from English and Danish . She lives in Tønder , Denmark .

Life

After graduating from high school in Oberursel (Taunus) in 1991 , Heimburger studied at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 1992 to 1997 . She completed her studies as a qualified literary translator, with Spanish as an additional language . She translates freelance entertainment novels, children's books and non-fiction, with a focus on women's literature , contemporary literature , detective story , thriller and lit Chick . She sees colloquial texts as a particular challenge.

“My core competency is translating literature from English and Danish into German, but I also translate websites, product descriptions, advertising copy, etc. I don't translate word for word; I translate the message of the text into an authentic, appealing, untranslated German. In addition, I offer readings and lectures (on the subjects of language, translation in general, the books I have translated in particular) and can moderate these and lead workshops ... Heimburger has been a board member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ, since 2017 , after having been a member of its honorary commission since 2013. The Weltlesebühne Berlin and the BücherFrauen also belong to her fields of work.

In June 2017 Heimburger spoke in Aabenraa about her work as a candidate for the Schleswig party .
