Mario Giordana (born January 16, 1942 in Barge , Province of Cuneo , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and retired archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Mario Giordana was ordained a priest on June 25, 1967 . Pope Paul VI bestowed on him on October 5, 1977 the title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ); Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on October 3, 1990 .

On April 27, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Minora and Apostolic Nuncio in Haiti . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano on May 29 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Paolo Romeo , Apostolic Nuncio in Italy and San Marino , and Giuseppe Guerrini , Bishop of Saluzzo .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 15, 2008 as Apostolic Nuncio in Slovakia . His tenure as Apostolic Nuncio ended with the appointment of his successor Giacomo Guido Ottonello on April 1, 2017, and he entered into old-age retirement.

On October 4, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and on December 15, 2018, a member of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints .
