Mario Monticelli
Mario Monticelli (born March 16, 1902 in Venice , † June 30, 1995 in Milan ) was an Italian chess player .
He won the Italian individual championship three times: 1929 in Florence , 1934 in Milan and 1939 in Rome . He played for Italy in five Chess Olympiads : 1927 , 1928 and 1931 to 1935 . He also took part in the 1936 unofficial Chess Olympiad Chess Olympia 1936 .
At the tournament in Budapest in 1926 he was tied for first with Ernst Grünfeld in front of Akiba Rubinstein , Richard Réti and Savielly Tartakower .
In 1950 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM), in 1985 the title of Honorary Grand Master (HGM). According to the historical Elo number calculated by Jeff Sonas , it had an Elo number of 2618 in August 1926. Its highest position on the world rankings calculated by Sonas was 18th in October 1926.
