Alberto David (born March 26, 1970 in Milan ) is an Italian - Luxembourgish chess player . In 2012 he switched from the Luxembourg to the Italian chess federation. He has held the title of Grand Master since 1998 and is the only Luxembourg citizen to have ever received this title.

Life

The Alberto Davids family moved to Luxembourg in 1974. In 1975 he started playing chess. In the early 1980s he was briefly tutored in chess by Mark Taimanow . Alberto David studied philosophy in London , graduating in 1992.

He used to play club chess in Luxembourg for Cercle d'échecs Philidor Dommeldange-Beggen , since 2011 he has played for De Sprénger Echternach , with whom he won the Luxembourg team in 2013 , 2015 , 2016 , 2018 and 2019 and took part in the European Club Cup 2013. In the Belgian first division he played for Namur Echecs . In the 2011/12 season he moved to Cercle des Echecs de Charleroi and was team champion there in his first season. In the 2018/19 season David played for the Club d'échecs de Watermael-Boitsfort . In Italy he played for Milanese in 1881 . In France he played for the Club de Cavalier Bleu Drancy until 2003 , then until 2007 for Clichy Echecs , with whom he became French team champion in 2007 and took part in the European Club Cup three times. In the 2008/09 and 2010/11 seasons he played for the Club de Lutèce Echecs , in the 2012/13 season for L'Echiquier Chalonnais and in the 2013/14 season for Les Tours de Haute Picardie . In the German Federal Chess League he played for Godesberger SK from 1999 to 2001 . In Austria he played for Austria Wien Husek until 2001 , and won the Danish Skakligaen in 2019 with the Xtracon Køge team .

successes

For Luxembourg he took part in six Chess Olympiads ( 1994 to 2002 and 2006 ), and in 2002 he received a silver medal in Bled, Slovenia for his result on the first board of 11 out of 13. He played for Italy at the 2014 Chess Olympiad ., He took part in three European team championships with Luxembourg (1992, 2001 and 2003). In Plovdiv 2003 he received a gold medal for his result of 6 out of 8 on the first board. David prefers to play tournaments in Paris and has won a number of GM tournaments there, for example, he won the Paris City Championship in 2003 and 2005 and, also in 2005, the Paris Open . In 2012 he won the Italian individual championship in Turin when he participated for the first time by 1.5 points. In 2016 he became Italian champion again after a rapid playoff match with Sabino Brunello , Michele Godena and Pier Luigi Basso tied on points in Rome . In December 2019 David won the Italian championship for the third time in Padua .

In November 2015, he was behind Daniele Vocaturo in second place in the Italian Elo ranking.
