Mark Fisher OBE (born April 20, 1947 in Warwickshire , England , † June 25, 2013 in London ) was a British architect . Best known were his numerous stage designs for popular music groups and individual artists such as Pink Floyd , U2 , The Rolling Stones , Tina Turner , Genesis , Peter Gabriel , Lady Gaga , Madonna , Mylene Farmer and Metallica . He designed stages for the Olympic opening and closing events in Turin in 2006 , Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012 .

Life

Mark Fisher graduated from the prestigious Pocklington School in the East Riding of Yorkshire . In 1971 he graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Influenced by the works of Inigo Jones and John Nash , Fisher turned to stage design soon after completing his studies. The set for the rock musical " Jesus Christ Superstar " was one of his first works .

In 1977 Fisher worked as a team member of Britannia Row Productions for the first time with Pink Floyd and was also involved in the set design for The Wall in 1980/81. The large, inflatable teacher doll for the hit Another Brick in the Wall was designed according to its exterior. He then worked for both camps of the quarreling Pink Floyd, which included the reissues of The Wall by Roger Waters in 1990 and from 2010 as well as the great world tours of his ex-colleagues from 1987 to 1989 and 1994.

Since 1989 Fisher has designed the stages for the Rolling Stones (including Steel Wheels , Voodoo Lounge and Bridges to Babylon ), from 1992 also for U2 (including ZooTV , PopMart , 360 ° ). From 1985 to 1994 Fisher ran the Fisher Park company together with his colleague Jonathan Park . He then founded Mark Fisher Studio (later renamed Stufish ). In 2012 he was involved in the Diamond Jubilee Concert for Queen Elizabeth II .

He died in a London hospital on June 25, 2013.
