Markershausen is a part of the municipality of Herleshausen in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

geography

Markershausen is located northwest of the main town Herleshausen. The village is surrounded by forests and is located in the southern Ringgau .

history

The place was first mentioned around 1300 as Marquartishusen , in 1359 it was called Marcwartshusen and around 1400 Margwertshusin .

As with many of the surrounding villages, the Treusch von Buttlar were also the feudal lords of Markershausen. The manor Markershausen was probably a kind of Vorwerk of Brandenfels Castle. The place thus belonged to the court of Brandenfels Castle . The castle of this court was located northwest of Markershausen on a hilltop and is still in ruins today. The representative manor house with several farm buildings and a park-like garden was built in its present form in the middle of the 18th century.

On December 1, 1970, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the municipalities of Altefeld, Archfeld, Breitzbach, Herleshausen (with Frauenborn), Holzhausen, Markershausen, Nesselröden, Unhausen, Willershausen and Wommen voluntarily merged to form the larger municipality of Herleshausen.

politics

The mayor is Dieter Modner (as of 2016).
