Martin Eberle (born December 30, 1931 in Memmingen , † 1991 ) was a German weightlifter .

Life

Martin Eberle grew up in Memmingen and began in her early childhood in gymnastics club Memmingen with the gymnastics . As a teenager he discovered his strength and started lifting weights . It didn't take long and he achieved his first successes in the Swabian and Bavarian regions. In 1953 he started for the first time in a German championship, but was not able to place in the front field. From 1954 to 1965 he was then regularly successful at German championships and won eight titles in the Olympic three-way battle. He also spent successful years from 1957 to 1959 at AC Schrobenhausen , where he had moved. With Josef Schnell's club , he won the German team championship in 1959. He also came to some international assignments. His best placements were two 5th places at the European Championships in 1959 and 1963 in the bantam or featherweight (up to 56 and 60 kg body weight). He had bad luck in the Olympic qualification for the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 , when he lost to Hans Reck from Leipzig with the same performance only because of the slightly higher body weight . But in 1964 it worked, because Martin Eberle won the featherweight elimination from Lothar Block, Berlin and represented Germany at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . Martin Eberle was a very enthusiastic athlete who was always there when he was called by the association. He died at the age of 60 after a long and serious illness.
