Martin Knold (born January 14, 1976 in Fredrikstad , Norway ) is a former Norwegian ice hockey player who played three seasons for the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League and eight seasons for Linköpings HC . He also took part in eight world championships as a long-time national player of Norway.

Career

As a 16-year-old, Knold moved from his home country Norway to Sweden , because there the youth work and thus the chances of a professional career were better. His first stop was the Frölunda HC U20 team . In 1996 he moved to Linköpings HC in the second Swedish league. With his team he was able to rise to the Elitserien for the first time in the 1998/99 season . In the next year Knold rose again with Linköping, but managed to get back up in 2001. He stayed with his club for two more years before he decided to move in 2004, after a total of 334 games for Linköping. For the 2004/05 season he signed an annual contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . There he was one of the best defenders in the league and was together with Mike York the top scorer of the Roosters. In early 2005 he received an early contract in the Sauerland until 2007 because of his good performance . In early 2006, Knold suffered an adductor injury and could not play until the end of the season. After a rehab program in the summer, Knold was back in the Roosters squad at the beginning of the 2006/07 season and was able to play painlessly. After a few games, however, the injury broke up again, so that this season was largely over for him. Towards the end, the Norwegian was back on the rooster bench, but was not used due to pain. His contract was not extended, so that Knold Iserlohn left after 100 games in three years.

After another summer rehab program, Knold initially kept fit with a team in Scandinavia before finally switching to the Herning Blue Fox in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen . But here, too, pain occurred under stress, so that Knold was not able to play. He finally decided to end his professional ice hockey career.

International

For Norway , Knold took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1993 and 1994 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 1994 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the A World Championships in 1999 , 2000 and 2001 and at the B World Championships in 1998, 2002 , 2003 , 2004 and 2005 . At the B-WM 2005 he was able to return to the top division with Norway, to which he contributed with seven points as the top scorer among all defenders in Group A.
