Martin Seiferth (born September 18, 1990 in Berlin ) is a German basketball player who has been under contract with the second division Paderborn Baskets since 2018 .

Career

Seiferth learned to play basketball like his brother Andreas Seiferth , who was a year older, from the Marzahner Basket Bären, with whom he won the German U16 championship in 2006. Later he played together with his brother and his former Marzahn teammates Niels Giffey , Steven Monse and Nico Adamczak for the youth teams of the multiple German men's champions Alba Berlin in the youth basketball league (NBBL). In 2009 Martin also won the championship title in the NBBL in the U19 age group.

Seiferth was only rarely used in the NBBL and otherwise only played in the regional league for VfB Hermsdorf in the men's area . In contrast to second division players of the same age, Martin was therefore also directly eligible to play in the US college league NCAA . In contrast to his long-time teammate Niels Giffey, who received a scholarship on the east coast at the University of Connecticut in 2010, Seiferth had a study place on the west coast at the University of Oregon from 2010 , where he initially worked for the Ducks college team in the Pacific-10 Conference played, for which the former national basketball player and later Berlin-based Sven Meyer had been active. Here Seiferth did not get along well as a freshman , changed the university and went to Eastern Washington University . After changing university, Seiferth was initially not eligible to play in NCAA championship games for a year before he played for the Eagles in the Big Sky Conference from 2012 . With the Eagles Seiferth got more game shares and was able to recommend himself as a defensive front court player . In Seiferth's time, however, the Eagles initially remained without further postseason participation.

After finishing his studies in 2014, Martin Seiferth returned to his hometown and got a professional contract in the first team of Alba Berlin in the top German division basketball Bundesliga . There he played again with Niels Giffey. After an injury in the pre-season, Seiferth missed the start of the season with the former runner-up and cup winner and only made two short appearances after an injury to his teammate Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann . Due to the commitment of the more experienced Jannik Freese to his position, no further Bundesliga appearances were initially added, whereby Seiferth also made two appearances in the top 16 group phase of the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2014/15 .

For the 2015/16 season he moved to BV Chemnitz 99 in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA and went to USC Heidelberg within the ProA in summer 2017 .

After a year in Heidelberg, he joined second division rivals Paderborn Baskets in summer 2018 .
