The Maserati GranTurismo is a four-seater coupé from the Italian car manufacturer Maserati , which was built in Modena between 2007 and 2019 .

history

Maserati Gran Turismo model year 2018

Originally presented as the successor to the Maserati Coupé , which was discontinued in mid-2007 , the GranTurismo is technically an offshoot of the Maserati Quattroporte sedan presented in September 2003 . At the IAA 2009 , the open version was presented as the Maserati GranCabrio , which was available from May 2010. The body and interior were designed by Pininfarina .

The 4.2-liter Ferrari V8 develops an output of 298 kW (405 hp) and gives the car a power-to-weight ratio of 4.6 kg / hp. Instead of the sequential transmission of the earlier Coupé in a transaxle arrangement, the GranTourismo has a 6-speed automatic transmission from ZF that is conventionally flanged to the engine . The long wheelbase and short overhangs allow space for four full seats in the interior.

From summer 2008 Maserati also offered the GranTurismo S to. It has the 4.7-liter version of the V8 engine developed by Ferrari with an output of 323 kW (440 hp) , which was already used in the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione . In addition, the S has a sequential vehicle transmission and minor modifications to the body and chassis. The brakes have also been adapted to the increased performance.

A new GranTurismo MC Stradale was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013 . In addition to the 4.7-liter V8, it has the automated six-speed gearbox and is produced in the Modena plant. The top speed is 303 km / h.

The car magazine Sport Auto achieved a lap time of 8:14 minutes with the MC Stradale on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring.

For the 2018 model year, the front section was redesigned at the end of 2017 with a radiator grille in the shape of a hexagon, based on the Alfieri design study. The front and rear aprons (only on the sports model) have also been revised. A new infotainment system was installed in the interior of the Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio, which is now operated via an 8.4 "touchscreen and can also be operated via a two-stage rotary control. It also supports Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto from Google, but only via a cable connection to the USB port in the storage compartment of the armrest and not wireless.

All four available versions (Gran Turismo Sport, Gran Turismo MC, Gran Cabrio Sport and Gran Cabrio MC) have identical engines and almost the same performance. The convertibles achieve a 10 km / h lower top speed (approx. 290 km / h) due to the higher wind resistance.

After the factory orders for this revised model were discontinued in February / March 2018, there was a renewed edition and extension of the order phase in mid-2018. The last model was built in November 2019.

The successor (based more closely on the Alfieri design study) will neither have a naturally aspirated engine nor four seats (it will be shorter and only a two-seater), which will make it lighter, but the idea of the Gran Turismo (GT), which Maserati claims to be the inventor of this concept.

In March 2018, the Milan-based coachbuilder Touring Superleggera presented the Coupé Touring Sciàdipersia , which is based on GranTurismo technology and is intended to be reminiscent of the historic Maserati 5000 GT Scià di Persia sports car . The convertible version followed a year later. A small series of 10 or 15 vehicles has been announced for both versions.

Maserati plans to offer the GrandTurismo with electric drive . Tests are currently being carried out.
