Massenhausen is a district of Bad Arolsen in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .
Geographical location
Massenhausen is located in the Waldecker Land a few hundred meters east of the border with North Rhine-Westphalia , where the nearby town of Canstein is located, and about 4 km west-northwest of Bad Arolsen. Directly south past the village, through which the country road 3078 runs, flows the Thiele, which is striving towards Bad Arolsen .
history
Massenhausen is mentioned for the first time in a document from the year 1300, in which the knights Stephan and Konrad von Horhausen (today: Niedermarsberg ) gave a hoof (arable land) in Massenhausen to the Augustinian convent Aroldessen . Its mention in an undated, but certainly from the early 13th century, tithe list of the Westphalian monastery of Corvey indicates the older existence of the village of Massenhausen . The church is the oldest building in the village.
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Massenhausen lost its independence and was incorporated into the city of Arolsen on December 31, 1971.
church
Its location on a flat, raised ledge and walled loopholes in the church tower indicate the originally defensive character of the complex in the late Middle Ages ( fortified church ). Noteworthy are the old courtyards with characteristic lengthways and cross-deck houses that are grouped around the church in the center of the village.
Lindenplatz
Old documents prove that justice was pronounced at this place as early as 1339. This is where the gogericht or thing met. In the 15th century, the place of execution moved to Mengeringhausen . The syringe house stood here from 1865 to 1962 . At the time the building was erected, this was almost the highest built-up space in Massenhausen, so that the fire engine could quickly be brought to the scene of the fire without horses. Also here were from the local gendarme tramp fixed for a night when they did not adhere to law and order.
