Course and catchment area

The Thiele rises near the borders of Bad Arolsen to the west in the municipality Diemelsee , for some community further south located Twistetal and north-west in neighboring Hochsauerlandkreis ( Nordrhein-Westfalen located) City Marsberg . Its source is in the Waldecker Forest between the village of Massenhausen ( near Bad Arolsen) in the northeast and the woodless Massenhauser Höhe ( 432.5  m above sea  level ) in the west southwest. It is located in a grove in an agricultural area a few hundred meters south-southeast of the Höhenhof estate at around 390  m above sea level. NN .

Initially, the Thiele flows northeast to Massenhausen, which it touches south. It then runs south-east through a valley lined with forests to the north, in which it feeds a pond north of the Mengeringhausen glider airfield and is bridged in the Bad Arolsen – Korbach section by the Warburg – Sarnau railway and the 252 federal road . The stream then flows south past the core town of Bad Arolsen, passing through the Mengeringhäuser Feld industrial area to the northeast of the Mengeringhausen district .

Shortly afterwards the Thiele flows out to about 245  m above sea level. NN into the Twiste tributary Aar .

The catchment area of the Thiele covers 8,664 km².
