Wetterburg is a district of Bad Arolsen in the North Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

Geographical location

The climatic health resort Wetterburg is located in the Waldecker Land almost 3 km east of Bad Arolsen on the state road  3080 leading from there to Volkmarsen. To the east past the village flows the Twiste , which is dammed up from the Twist dam to the Twistesee , which extends south and east of Wetterburg. The Aar , which flows through the village, flows into this river a little below the dam built directly to the east of the village ; in turn the Bicke flows into this at Wetterburg .

history

The development of Wetterburg was strongly influenced by the eventful history of the Wetterburg built in 1306 until the middle of the 16th century . In 1654, Count Josias II had a church built next to the castle after the place had previously been supplied by Külte . Between 1640 and 1750 five mills and iron hammers were built around Wetterburg .

On December 31, 1971 Wetterburg was incorporated into the city of Arolsen.

The Twist dam, built from 1973 to 1981, was inaugurated on September 26, 1981 by the then Prime Minister of Hesse , Holger Börner . In 1984 the Twisteseehalle was completed as a multi-purpose hall. During the construction of the hall, the Wetterburg team made their own contribution to the value of DM 160,000. In the same year the "Luther House" of the Protestant parish Wetterburg was inaugurated. Many citizens are involved in the numerous local associations.

The Wetterburg

In 1306 Count Heinrich IV. Von Waldeck had the castle built on a rock spur between the Aar and Twiste. The building of the castle was his reaction to the pledge of Volkmarsen and the Kugelsburg to the Archbishop of Cologne , Heinrich II. Von Virneburg , in 1304. The building developed into an object of dispute between the Archdiocese of Cologne and the Counts of Waldeck.

tourism

The Twistesee and the forests in the area offer numerous leisure opportunities. Another attraction is the Wetterburg , located on the northern outskirts of the village . Excursion destinations in the vicinity are the baroque town of Bad Arolsen with the residential palace and the Kugelsburg near Volkmarsen.
