Massive Audio Nerve , initially mostly known as MAN , was a Swedish groove and alternative metal band from Gothenburg , which was founded in 2005 and split up in 2014.

history

After his band Transport League broke up, Tony Jelencovich founded the band MAN in August 2005, although he was previously active in bands such as Mnemic , Icon in Me , B-Thong and Angel Blake . On their debut album Obey, Consume, Reject , which was released by Gain Records in 2005 , the group consisted of singer Jelencovich, guitarist Martin Meyerman, bassist Fredrik "Stitch" Blomkvist and drummer Magnus 155, all of whom knew each other from Transport League . In March 2006 the group played in the opening act for Fear Factory , before Andreas Engberg joined the line-up as the new drummer in November. In addition, the guitarist Meyerman was replaced by Robert "Robgus" "Guz" Gustafsson. In the meantime, the band opened up for Pain and contributed a song to the video game The Darkness . In April 2007 the debut album was also released outside of Scandinavia, for which Cargo Records took over the distribution. In the summer, she performed at the Sweden Rock Festival . A second album followed in 2008 at Tiefdruck-Musik under the name Peacenemy . On the single My Own Sickness from this album, the Fear Factory singer Burton C. Bell was also to be heard as a guest musician. After the album Massive Audio Nerve had been released on the same label in 2010 , guitarist Gustafsson was replaced by Nils Olsson, who in late 2011 was in turn replaced by Markus “Mark Black” Fristedt. In addition, Adde Larsson replaces the drummer Andreas Engberg. Since November 2011 the band has been spelling out its name with Massive Audio Nerve. In 2011 the download EP Massive Audio Outtakes was released .

After signing a contract with Dead End Records , the next album Cancer Vulgaris was released in July 2013 . The sound carrier was recorded in the IF studios in Gothenburg under the direction of Roberto Laghi ( In Flames , Mustasch , Hardcore Superstars , B-Thong, Lok ), who also mixed and produced the sound carrier. In March 2014, the group announced its dissolution.

style

Tobias Gerber from Metal Hammer stated in his review of Peacenemy that you could clearly hear the proximity to Jelencovich's previous bands Mnemic and Transport League , although MAN sounds more “earthy” than Mnemic. The staccato - riffing , however, recall Fear Factory . Christian Kruse from Metal Hammer heard influences from Nu Metal in his review of Cancer Vulgaris . There are "borrowings from nineties grooves and applied psycho-vocal parts". In addition, influences from Metalcore , Djent and Faith No More can be heard. The vocals offer "a vocal spectrum that can combine shouts , screams, Mike Patton -Pathos, System Of A Down- clumsiness and Death Metal- grunts". Kruse found the music to be comparable to that of earthtone9 . According to Janne Stark in The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! the band is the missing link between Soulfly , Korn and Machine Head , with slight influences from Rob Zombie and Pantera . Both clear and guttural singing is used in the songs . According to laut.de, the band relies on the full "Scale Quarter Tone System", in which they do not work with 12 semitones as usual , but with 24 quarter tones . Steve Vai or Jeff Beck would have tried something similar, but never implemented it on album length.
