The sailor is a soldier of the lowest rank in many naval forces .

etymology

The term "sailor" ( English : Seaman or Seaman recruit ) is derived from the Middle High German Mazgenoze , which is a combination of the words Maz ("meal") and Genoze ("comrade"). The similarly named "Moses" was the youngest, unskilled member of a ship's crew in training. He also became a cabin boy or after more than 6 months Seezeit novice or Ordinary Seaman called.

The rank of sailor is determined by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act .

Carrier group

If they are members of a medical career and do not have the rank of medical soldier, naval uniform wearers carry the rank designation "sailor" in the lowest rank .

Equivalent and superior ranks

The sailor corresponds to the rank of hunter, radio operator, armored infantryman, etc. ( → see here ) in other areas of the Bundeswehr. The collective term for all of these lowest ranks is often the term “soldier” . In the armed forces of NATO , the sailor is equivalent to all ranks with the NATO rank code OR-1. In the category of teams a sailor accordance ZDv is 7.20 under the higher-ranking corporal classified.
