Matthias Faltz

Matthias Faltz (* 1961 in Meißen ) is a German theater actor , general manager and director .

Life

Matthias Faltz was born in Meißen and grew up first in Saultitz and then in Lommatzsch ( Saxony ). 1977–1980 he completed his vocational training with Abitur as a skilled worker for Elast. This was followed by an 18-month military service. In 1982 Faltz began his studies at the Technical University in Dresden , which he finished in 1987 with a degree in automotive engineering.

Parallel to his studies, he began to be enthusiastic about the theater, from 1983 he took lessons and worked with the pantomime ensemble of the German Theater, Théâtre Corps Acteurs Paris, Jacques Leqoc and in workshops at mime and puppet theater festivals.

He founded the FINKE-FALTZ theater with Jens Finke in 1985 and has performed his own productions in Germany, Russia, Korea, Japan, Morocco, Cameroon and other countries for almost twenty years. From 1993 onwards, in addition to the FINKE-FALTZ productions, he produced his own directorial work and plays in Mannheim, Nuremberg, Dresden, Wiesbaden, Erfurt, Berlin, Mainz and Oldenburg, among others.

From 1993 Faltz worked as a freelance director, from 2000 to 2004 he was also a lecturer for drama and physical theater at the State Institute for Teacher Training Greifswald.

With FINKE-FALTZ and as a soloist, he worked in various formations and co-productions (including Theater Künstliche Welten, Mauricio Kagel , Hans-Jochen Menzel, Rumpelstil , Gerhard Schöne , Simon Jacob Drees) and at theaters (including the Staatsschauspiel Dresden , Schaubude Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin , Deutsche Oper Berlin ) with. In 2004 he took over the management of the Junge Staatstheater Wiesbaden for six years .

At the beginning of the 2010/2011 season, Faltz moved to the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg as managing director . He regularly directs and is also active as a writer. At the end of the 2017/2018 season, Faltz left the State Theater as artistic director at his own request.

Since 2019 he has been managing the newly opened Volksbühne in the Großer Hirschgraben in Frankfurt am Main together with Michael Quast.

Faltz has a son, the cameraman Paul Faltz.
