In addition to his parliamentary activities, Pröfrock has been the coordinator of the CDU district associations in the Stuttgart region since 2007 . From 1999 to 2009 and since 2013 Pröfrock has been a member of the regional assembly in the Verband Region Stuttgart. Pröfrock has also been a member of the CDU 2017 initiative since May 2014.

Commitment to nighttime local transport in the greater Stuttgart area

Since his first election to the regional assembly in the Verband Region Stuttgart in 1999, Pröfrock has been committed to the further development of local public transport. Pröfrock played a key role in the night bus system launched in 2000 and the changeover from the night bus to the night S-Bahn. “These offers are simply part of an international conurbation,” says Pröfrock, explaining his commitment to night-time public transport in the greater Stuttgart area.

Member of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg (2011 to 2016)

In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2011 , Matthias Pröfrock achieved 36.8% of the votes in constituency 15 (Waiblingen) and thus a state parliament mandate. As a member of the state parliament, he is a member of the interior committee and the petitions committee of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament. In seven further committees he represents one member each as a permanent deputy. After he was defeated by his opponent Siegfried Lorek from Winnenden in an internal party vote on February 6, 2015 , and thus became the top candidate for the state elections in 2016, Pröfrock will no longer belong to the new Stuttgart state parliament (constituent meeting on May 12, 2016).

NSU committee of inquiry

Since the establishment of the NSU investigative committee on November 5, 2014, Pröfrock has been the chairman of the CDU in the committee. Previously, he was chairman of the CDU in the inquiry commission set up on April 30, 2014 "Consequences of the series of murders of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) / Development of right-wing extremism in Baden-Württemberg - Recommendations for action for the state parliament and civil society" of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, which As a result of the expert report, its work is suspended until the conclusion of the NSU investigation committee set up on November 5, 2014. The investigation committee deals with the processing of the contacts and activities of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) in Baden-Württemberg and the circumstances of the murder of the police officer Michele Kiesewetter in Heilbronn. In the committee of inquiry, Pröfrock promotes "serious clarification and the greatest possible transparency."

Pröfrock's role in the expert opinion affair of the NSU inquiry commission

Since November 5, 2014, the work of the NSU Inquiry Commission in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament has been suspended until the conclusion of the NSU investigation committee, which was also set up on November 5, 2014 as a result of an expert opinion affair. The Green politician and inquiry commission chairman Willi Halder had withheld an opinion from the state parliament administration to clarify the commission's right to ask questions and provide information and passed it on to the Green politician Daniel Lede-Abal and the Greens parliamentary leader Hans-Ulrich Sckerl as well as a member of the parliamentary group. Pröfrock publicly accused Sckerl of having made changes to the report. "It is obvious that Sckerl had an influence on the changes," said Pröfrock in the Südwestpresse. In the media, Pröfrock explicitly called for Sckerl's role in the affair to be clarified and for Lede-Abdal to withdraw from the commission of inquiry. “Under these circumstances, we cannot imagine a further cooperation with Mr Lede-Abal in the Obleute group. His withdrawal from the study commission is inevitable if the commission is to be able to return to practical work, ”demands Pröfrock. Finally, the CDU withdrew completely from its work in the study commission: “A chairman of a study commission must be neutral. If it is not cleared up whether the expert opinion has been manipulated by the Green Party and possibly also by MP Ulrich Sckerl, we will no longer participate in the committee, ”said Pröfrock in FAZ.NET. A new beginning to work on the NSU complex was made with the establishment of the NSU investigative committee, of which Matthias Pröfrock also belongs as CDU chairman.

Political positions

Police reform

As a member of the Interior Committee, Pröfrock was critical of the police reform in Baden-Württemberg, through which twelve police headquarters were created from 37 police departments: “I questioned the dimensions of this reform from the start.” Pröfrock is particularly disturbed by the presidium's layout that he thinks is way too big. At the same time, he fears that “the police practitioners will counter the urge to centralize politics by smuggling in decentralized structures as well as possible,” reports Pröfrock of the Waiblinger Kreiszeitung. In these circumstances, the reform would fail. Ultimately, according to Pröfrock, "the police reform is at the expense of the police stations."

Refugee and Asylum Policy

Matthias Pröfrock is an expert on asylum policy for the CDU parliamentary group in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament. In this role, Pröfrock campaigns for the fight against asylum abuse. “We want to help those who really need our help. The right of asylum alone we can migrate challenge not solve. "At the same time it welcomed the declaration of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia as safe countries of origin by the federal government as a" good signal. "Next to Pröfrock speaks for the increase of personnel in the BAMF out to To be able to conclude asylum applications faster. Nevertheless, Pröfrock welcomes the creation of the possibility of a work permit for the duration of the procedure after a three-month period. "Nobody should have to live at state costs who would much rather work and take care of their own living," said Pröfrock in a plenary address to the Baden-Württemberg state parliament on April 10, 2014.

As a result, Pröfrock no longer had a doctorate. On July 6, 2011, the doctoral committee of the University of Tübingen announced that Pröfrock's doctoral degree had been revoked . Pröfrock had "to a not inconsiderable extent [taken over] of foreign texts literally without this being indicated".
