Matthias Schlubeck (born April 29, 1973 in Wuppertal ) is a German pan flutist . He is the first graduate of a music college in Germany to specialize in pan flute and is a multiple world record holder and gold medalist at the Paralympics in disabled sports .

biography

Musical career

Matthias Schlubeck was born in 1973 in Wuppertal and began taking pan flute lessons at the age of six. He continued his musical education until 1994 under Jean-Claude Mara , Nicolai Pîrvu , Damian Luca and in a master class given by Gheorghe Zamfir . At the beginning of 1991 he began studying pan flute and instrumental pedagogy under Professor Manfredo Zimmermann at the Musikhochschule Köln (Wuppertal branch) , which he graduated with honors in 1997, followed by the concert exam in 1998 .

In 1989 he began to give international concerts regularly and to publish records. He mainly interprets classical music with the pan flute in combination with guitar , organ , piano , harp and with orchestral accompaniment . He participated in radio and television productions.

In addition to his concert activities, he founded a music publisher for works of the pan flute and his own record label for recordings of this instrument and organizes and gives pan flute courses. In his home town of Bellersen (town of Brakel in the Höxter district ) he founded a private music academy in an old mill in 2009 . From 2010 to 2016 he was a lecturer for pan flute at the Institute for Music at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences , where he supervised the first nationwide bachelor's degree for the pan flute.

Sporting successes

Matthias Schlubeck worked for many years as a competitive swimming athlete in disabled sports. After his first competition in 1987, he was able to celebrate numerous successes at national and international level. At the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul , Schlubeck became the youngest German participant to win the gold medal in his damage class over 50 m breasts and set a new world record .

In the following years he won countless gold medals nationally and internationally and set new world records in breast, but also over 50 m and 100 m butterfly. At the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona , he again won a gold medal for the 100 m breaststroke and set a world record for this distance, which was only set again in 2003 in his damage class. On the 100-m back he also won a bronze medal in Barcelona.

Also in 1996 he took part in the Paralympics in Atlanta and won a bronze medal in the 100 m chest. After Atlanta, Schlubeck gave up swimming training in favor of his studies and the upcoming exams and concentrated on his musical career. Matthias Schlubeck received various awards for his sporting achievements, including a. the silver medal for disabled sports and the silver laurel leaf or the corresponding subsequent awards from the respective Federal President.
