Matvey Slavin is an expressive-realistic painter and draftsman. His original focus is on landscape painting. Since 2006 Slavin has been recording scenes in urban areas in order to gain deeper access to his adopted home in order to get to know the city and its residents better. In graphic snapshots, Matvey Slavin captures excerpts from everyday life, segments of normal life. Artistic appropriation of the location is reflected in his drawings and paintings, with Slavin's apprehension of urban space and those involved in it including the factor of time. It's about the simultaneity of the present, past and future. “We talk about a time,” says Slavin, “but there is no uniform time - several timelines exist side by side, and everyone has their own sense of time.” Slavin stages his character constellations in the sense of a psychological, inner dramaturgy, with the individual images standing next to each other also how sequences of a cinematic sequence can be seen.
