Maurice Jeffers (born April 3, 1979 in Morrilton , Arkansas ) is a former American basketball player who, after several seasons in the second-rate Spanish league Española de Baloncesto, now played three seasons with the German first division 46ers from Gießen .

Career

Jeffers initially played for the Lions of Westark College in the NJCAA while studying in his home state . After two years at what was then the Community College , he moved to Saint Louis University in the city of the same name in the state of Missouri . The basketball team Bilikens of the SLU played in the Conference USA of the NCAA Division I. In his first year with the Bilikens, where he played together with Chris Heinrich , who is also known in Germany , he took part in the finals of the NCAA, which, however, immediately ended in a first round loss to the Utah Utes . In the following year, his last college season due to his playing time at Junior College, he was the Bilikens 'player with the most points and rebounds and was voted the best offensive and defensive player of the team and consequently also the Bilikens' Most Valuable Player . In the following NBA Draft he was selected by the Sacramento Kings professional team, which ultimately did not take him under contract. He then made two games for Asheville Altitude from North Carolina in the then newly created NBA Development League . Later Jeffers had an engagement with the Swiss club Olympic from Freiburg im Üechtland , which could become runner-up in 2002 and for which his Bilikens teammate Matt Baniak was also active.

In 2003 he first played in the summer league United States Basketball League for two teams, but could not recommend himself there for higher tasks and finally signed with a Spanish club in the LEB Plata, which corresponds to the third division in Spain. In 2004 he presented himself again in the USBL, only to sign a contract again in Spain, where he played the next four seasons in the second highest class for different clubs.

In 2008 he was finally signed by the German club Gießen 46ers. In the 46ers Jeffers was one of the most important point collectors with an average of 12 points, but was injured at the end of the season, which ended for Gießen in a relegation rank. The BBL founding member Gießen could only prevent the first relegation from the Bundesliga by acquiring a license that had become vacant. In the following season Jeffers was only signed up after the start of the season because of the injury-related loss of Johannes Lischka . A relegation rank could be avoided this time. In the following season Jeffers initially had a commitment in Argentina , but was released from his contract there in January. The 46ers, who had started well into the season, were in danger of relegation after a series of defeats and signed the freed swingman a few days later. In the following season Jeffers had persistent knee problems from mid-December 2011 and was not used for the rest of the season, which ended for the team without Jeffers on a relegation zone.
