Max Schmitz (* 1936 in Oberhausen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German sculptor .

life and work

Schmitz studied art history , Egyptology and philosophy at the University of Munich from 1958 to 1959 and attended the Karlsruhe Art Academy from 1959 to 1962 . He studied with Professor Fritz Klemm and Hans Kindermann , among others . In 1963 was assistant to the sculptor Wilhelm Loth . From 1963 to 1965 he studied sculpture with Rudolf Hoflehner at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and political science with Golo Mann at the Technical University of Stuttgart . From 1965 to 1967 he was assistant to Rudolf Hoflehner.

Schmitz was a member of the German Association of Artists from 1973 and of the Baden-Württemberg Artists Association from 1975 . Since 1984 he has been a member of the artist group Constructive Tendencies and in 1997 he co-founded the group Ataraxia with the artists Ingrid Dahn and David D. Lauer .

The artist lives and works in Leonberg-Warmbronn and La Orotava on Tenerife .
