Maximilian Graf von Spreti (born July 16, 1766 in Straubing , † September 29, 1819 in Munich ) came from a soldier family of Italian descent, was a highly decorated officer in the Bavarian army and made it to major general .

Life

The Spreti family, who came from Italy, came to the court of Elector Max Emanuel at the beginning of the 18th century .

The grandfather Count Hieronymus von Spreti (1695–1772) reached the rank of Lieutenant Field Marshal and was married to Maria Caroline Charlotte von Ingenheim (1704–1749), the former favorite of the Elector or Emperor Karl Albrecht of Bavaria , with whom they had a son who founded the noble family of Counts von Holnstein from Bavaria .

Born as the son of the electoral chamberlain, Georgi knight and captain Joseph Graf von Spreti and his wife Elisabeth, née Countess von Paradies, Maximilian Graf von Spreti was already an ensign in the Count Daunian Regiment and in the Churprinz Regiment at the age of one, for which he already received a salary received, although he is expressly noted in the rankings as “underage”. After the siege of Mainz and after the assault on the Zahlbacherschanzen , his contingent commander, Count Ysenburg , reported to Elector Carl Theodor on December 7, 1794 about his military knowledge, steadfastness and courage. For this he was awarded the military badge on February 19, 1795 .

Promoted to major and battalion commander on April 20, 1796, in the summer of 1796 he took part with his battalion in the battles near Ahlen , Neresheim and Nördlingen , Deining and Neumarkt as well as in the battle of Würzburg , where he distinguished himself several times. In 1798 he was transferred to the 1st Fusilier Regiment "Wilhelm zu Pfalz-Birkenfeld", where, after being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (June 4, 1800) under the command of the commander of the first brigade, Major General von Deroy , he participated in the battles against France Weidenbühlerhöhe (June 5, 1800) and at Neuburg an der Donau (June 27, 1800) took part with honor.

After the campaign against Austria in 1805 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Military Max Joseph Order by army order of March 1, 1806 . In the campaign against Prussia in 1806/07 he distinguished himself as commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Fusilier Regiment, now the 6th Line Infantry Regiment "Herzog Wilhelm", especially near Glatz . Promoted to colonel on April 27, 1807 , he fell ill during the campaign against Austria in 1809, so that he applied for a garrison assignment.

But soon after his recovery he took over his regiment again, but was so badly wounded in the battle near Terfens next Schwaz (May 15, 1809) that he was only able to take control of the regiment again in October 1809. On November 1st, 1809, he captured the Tyrolean positions on the Bergisel as part of the Vels.

On March 23, 1810 von Spreti was appointed Colonel Commander of Augsburg . Two years later (February 23, 1812) he was transferred to Ingolstadt as commandant . Promoted to major general on September 4, 1813, he took part in the war against France in 1815 and was then given command of the 4th Infantry Brigade . Count von Spreti died in Munich on September 29, 1819.
