Medieval is an action film in production by Petr Jákl . The Czech historical film takes up the life story of Jan Žižka and how he became a well-known military commander during the Hussite Wars .

With a budget of the equivalent of 23 million US dollars, Medieval became the most expensive Czech film production in 2020 .

Jan Žižka is a member of a mercenary group that does "dirty work" for nobles. His new assignment is to save King Wenceslas' beautiful lover Catherine. The situation becomes complicated when Žižka falls in love with the king's lover.

In 2013 Petr Jákl announced the first plans for the film. In 2014 a publication was planned for 2016. Work on the film began after Jákl finished the film Ghoul in 2015. The US William Morris Agency helped recruit actors for the film.

The casting of the extras started in August 2016. In January 2017, the recruitment of around a thousand extras was completed.

In July 2017, Jákl announced that the shooting would take place in South Bohemia and Central Bohemia . In August 2018 the main role was taken. However, filming began on September 17, 2018 and lasted until December 2018. Additional supporting roles were awarded up to and including November 2018. The film was shot in the Křivoklát Castle , among other places .

The film was officially announced on September 13, 2018. The final production budget was given as the equivalent of $ 23 million.
