The Vervet Monkey is a fisheries protection boat of the German Coast Guard . The owner is the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE), which also manages the ship .
General
The Vervet Monkey - the fourth German fishing protection boat with this name - was put into service in April 2009 and replaced the predecessor boat of the same name from 1977 .
Like the sister ship Seefalke and the Seeadler , which is a few years older , the ship is used to monitor fisheries in Germany's Exclusive Economic Zone in the North and Baltic Seas and, within the framework of international agreements, outside of German sea waters. With an average of 880 maritime controls a year, they monitor fishing and compliance with fishing quotas. The crew consists of 20 men.
The ship was built under the hull number 560 at the Peene shipyard in Wolgast , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The keel of the ship was laid on February 29th, the launch on October 17th, 2008. The ship was completed on April 29, 2009.
Technical specifications
The ship measured with 1981 GT is 72.75 m long, 12.50 m wide and has a draft of 5.15 m. It is powered by two MTU - Diesel engines type 20V4000 M73L with a performance of each of 3600 kW driven. Two electric drive motors from the manufacturer VEM Sachsenwerk of the type DKMAB 5018-6U with an output of 1050 kW each can increase the drive output. In semi- diesel-electric operation, the ship reaches a top speed of 19.7 knots . The sole drive by the electric motors is also possible. The engines drive two controllable pitch propellers via gears .
A bow thruster with 55 kN and a high-performance fin rudder ensure the best maneuverability. The sea behavior is optimized by a fin stabilization system .
Two generators with an apparent power of 1716 kVA each and an emergency generator with an apparent power of 450 kVA are available for the power supply on board .
The special equipment includes a 3.6 t working crane , a 1.25 t service crane and two rigid inflatable boats that the inspectors can use to transfer to fishing vessels.
