Meike Kröger
Meike Kröger (born July 21, 1986 in Berlin ) is a former German high jumper .
Life
Kröger was an all -rounder in her youth and also competed in triple jump competitions before she decided on the high jump. Her first international assignment was the 2005 European Junior Championships in Kaunas . After graduating from high school, in 2006 she did a voluntary social year in Bishkek , the capital of Kyrgyzstan . There she worked in a home for street children, learned Russian and met former European high jump champion Igor Paklin .
Then she was twice, namely in 2007 and 2008, German junior champion and took third place at the German championships in 2008 with 1.87 m. In the 2008/09 indoor season she jumped 1.92 m at the German Indoor Championships and qualified together with Ariane Friedrich for the European Indoor Championships in Turin . Kröger made it to the final, but was unable to take part immediately before the competition due to a foot injury. 2009 was very volatile. Although she only met the B standard once to qualify for the World Championships in her home town of Berlin - twice B standard or once A standard were required - she was nominated by the DLV and justified the trust by qualifying for the finals and with achieved a remarkable result in eleventh place. On February 28, 2010, at the German Indoor Championships in Karlsruhe , she managed to jump over the 2-meter mark for the first time, which also meant qualifying for the Indoor World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated in the qualification with a skipped 1.85 m . At the German Championships in 2010 she was second and third the following year. Due to illness and injuries, she ended her sports career in 2012.
Meike Kröger spoke about her illnesses in the magazine Leichtathletik in February 2013. In addition to an old knee injury and hereditary chronic hypothyroidism, she suffered from depression at times and could not exercise. “I thought for a long time whether I should make this public. But I hope that this will help me raise awareness about mental illness. Because I am certainly not the only one affected in competitive sport. "
Kröger measures 1.86 m and had a competition weight of 61 kg. Her best outdoor performance is 1.93 m, set up on July 4, 2009 in Ulm , in 2010 she jumped 2.00 m indoors. She started for the LG North Berlin and trained with Jan-Gerrit Keil.
She studied at the Technical University of Berlin architecture . She finished her studies in 2011 after a stay in Switzerland at the University of Hamburg and now lives in California.
