The Mein Schiff 1 is a cruise ship of the shipping company TUI Cruises . It entered service on April 27, 2018, has a length of around 316 meters and is approved for 2894 passengers. The name was taken over from the earlier cruise ship of the same name Mein Schiff 1 , built in 1996 , which was handed over to the shipping company Marella Cruises .

On August 4, 2014, the German Meyer Werft agreed to take over a majority stake in the STX Finland shipyard in Turku . At the same time, TUI Cruises announced that it would order two more ships of this class from STX Finland ( Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 6 ) after Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff 4, which is currently under construction . After the German cartel clearance for the takeover, Meyer announced on September 19, 2014 that the new shipyard would be called Meyer Turku . The two new appointments have meanwhile become effective; In addition, options have been agreed with TUI Cruises for two further newbuildings. On July 1, 2015, these options were converted into binding orders. The new ships should be called Mein Schiff 7 and Mein Schiff 8 . In connection with this, it was also decided to transfer the previous TUI Cruises ships Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 to Thomson Cruises , which was renamed Marella Cruises in 2017 . On June 23, 2016, TUI Cruises finally announced that the two newbuildings will be named Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 .

Construction of Mein Schiff 1 began with the first steel cut on August 16, 2016 under construction number NB-1392. The keel of the new building was laid on February 13, 2017. At the same time, construction of the new Mein Schiff 2 began on this day . The floating took place on September 29, 2017, flooding the construction dock . The ship then left the construction dock. The ship was delivered on April 25, 2018 and started cruising from Kiel on April 27, 2018 .

The christening of the new Mein Schiff 1 took place on Friday, May 11th, 2018 as part of the 829th Hamburg port birthday . The godmothers were Kira Walkenhorst and Laura Ludwig .

General

The new Mein Schiff 1 , like the new Mein Schiff 2 that will follow in 2019, differs from the previous newbuildings from TUI Cruises. They are bigger and have a different look. For example, the two ships are a good 20 meters longer and have 180 cabins more than the shipping company's previous four newbuildings.

There is a 25 meter pool on the ship . The Mein Schiff 1 is also equipped with an enlarged fitness and spa area, in contrast to the new buildings that were put into service from 2014 to 2017. In order to be independent of the weather, the on-board arena is covered. It can be used as a sports field or as a cinema.

There are 12 restaurants and 15 bars / lounges on board.

In the inaugural season, 2018, Mein Schiff 1 will be operating cruises in the north of the country, in the Baltic Sea , the Baltic States and the Canary Islands . In the winter of 2018/2019, cruises in the Canary Islands are also planned in southern Europe and the Mediterranean .
